I started 2024 with @terriparlatoauthor’s book What Waits In The Woods and started 2025 reading her newest book and continuation of the Detective Rita Myers series, Watch Your Back. 

This third book has sealed Parlato as a must read author for me. I love the character, Detective Rita Myers. She has depth and is flawed, but she is smart and dedicated to her investigations. The twists in this story were surprising and kept coming, especially in the second half of the book. 

I highly recommend this book and Parlato’s other books especially if you enjoy dark crime fiction with complex domestic relationships. 

Things Don't Break on Their Own by Sarah Easter Collins
Did not finish book. Stopped at 30%.

The pace was slow and I did not find this to be a true thriller.

I was not sure about this one after the first couple chapters, but then it picked up and had some pretty major twists that I did not see coming. I ended up thinking about the twists in this one for several days after finishing it!

I recommend this audiobook which is well narrated, especially if you love thrillers with wild twists!
