A beautiful book about loss and grief. Lovely writing, charming in its complete and utter britishness. Certain tropes like the loud, unlucky-in-love friend felt a little tired but are often necessary in stories like this. Does take you on a journey, although at times I found it hard to believe that the characters really were not aware of certain things (other people’s/their own feelings, or even situations)

I think after such massive hype and a long wait of about 6 months (which is not as long as some folks who knew the series much earlier had to endure), I think while this book excelled in certain aspects, it definitely left a lot to be desired in others. SJM's immaculate representation of mental health is yet again a plus for her writing, the smut as advertised was on a different level (and moving from the YA category really helped immensely), though even those scenes could have been paced a bit better. They all fell around the middle of the book and we didn't get to witness the change/shift in their behavior after their big breakthrough. Which brings me to the biggest issue that SJM's works often suffer from - pacing & plot. Up until the midpoint I struggled to find anything that demanded my attention or took my breath away and while it's understandable that she needed time to set up the story and future conflicts too, we got a whole lot of flashbacks that amounted to very little impact. The last two parts are paced much better, with the surprise that was foreshadowed early on paying off.
I overall enjoyed this book and know that I'm for the most part disappointed because I just love the series too much. I would recommend it, I just know it could have been edited more sharply.
