3/5 ceramic turtles in the laundry basket for this one. This writing was SO rough. After reading Freida’s satire book, this legit read like that. But we kept going lol….only to find that the last 15% of the book had all of the twists and i slept thru that part and it legit wasn’t worth rewinding. The two FMC were legit unbearable…gah

Literally obsessed with this. I can’t stop thinking about how well all of the different perspectives were written - it’s exactly how I wanted the 5th Wave to be, and through this book I can see that it’s actually possible. This book was so nuanced, so fluidly written with a cadence that so perfectly balanced dialogue and masterful storytelling. I couldn’t wait to find out who did both crimes, and it unfolded like real life would - messy! For all other thoughts, see Jillian’s review, she hit the nail on the head. I’d recommend this to anyone who likes a thriller or a Dateline-y vibe - with a wee historical setting that made the plot even more layered and interesting. A+!!!!

I hate that I didn’t love this as much as book 2! This felt a lot more like book 1 - w parts I really loved and the rest that was interesting but at the same time sort of frustrating. Cassie’s perspective was particularly annoying. Glad to have read this series though!

Read this as a mix of audiobook and book. Audiobook because I feel like Yancey’s writing is meant to be read because it’s so beautifully written and metaphorical, book because even when I wasn’t commuting I needed to keep reading ASAP. It’s crazy how the puzzle of this book comes together, comes apart, over and over…I legit could not get enough.

Here’s my fav review I read of this book that captures exactly how I feel - “Heart-pounding pacing, lyrical prose and mind-bending twists . . ."--The New York Times Book Review

This was a good read. It suuuuuper dragged out though, but I didn’t see the twists coming (and they legit kept coming) so that’s a win in my book. I don’t think I’d recommend this to anyone though? Hence the lower rating. Also I did like how the characters were twisty but also how the house and its degradation added another layer of twist as well - you typically don’t see external factors on top of characters and I thought it brought a dimension of uncontrollable chaos haha.

The first 30% of this book wasn’t vibing with me, but then it all clicked into place. Both Gregory and Lucy (and even the supporting characters) had interesting depth, which made them fun to read and root for. This really felt like a story of growing up - with a dash of adventure and some fun plot!

This was literally ICONIC. Satire at its best. And I think the best part was that it was Freida making fun of herself 😂

I liked Kate Alice Marshall’s book so much, I found another! I really really enjoyed this, but thought the ending wrapped up too quickly. It was building up super well, but the bow tied up with too much characters just monologuing the truth lol.

I really, really loved this thriller. Picked it up bc of no wait in the queue and it was such a delight. Compelling characters, engaging plot - I never wanted it to end! And said oh shit multiple times so that’s a great sign hahs
