I was so sure I would love this book. I wanted to love this book. But, when I finally finished I just felt relieved to be done instead of excited to continue the series.

It gives me the ick that the FMC developed a "friendship" and weird crush on the MMC (ancient and fae because of course he is) when she was a teenager who had just escaped her abuser (who was SA-ing her) by killing him. And I really just couldn't get past that.

Beyond that, it wasn't anything amazing. Honestly, it felt like I was reading fanfiction.

I almost always finish a series even if I don't love the first book, because there is something fundamentally wrong with me as a person and I have to. I'm definitely not jumping into the next one right away.

TikTok tricked me again πŸ™ƒ.

The writing was very juvenile. It honestly felt like fanfiction I wrote when I was 13. The pacing was off. Everything felt very slow until the sudden, trainwreck of an ending.

Giving this a 4 just because I was absolutely sure I knew where this was going and I was wrong πŸ˜‚

Built and held suspense really well. The transitions between timelines were done very well and the story flowed seamlessly.

Cinderella's beautiful exterior hides an absolute monstrosity and if the rules aren't followed, everyone's in danger.

Told through the POV of one of her stepsisters, this retelling delivers on the horror, with a twist at the end that I never saw coming.

The pacing is great. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a fantastic job giving life to the story.

It is definitely worth the read of you're into horror and not squeamish. It was creative and well written.

Talia has to pull a Mulan and pose as a male warrior to avenge her brother and bring honor to her house.

I enjoyed the world building and the characters are all really fleshed out and likable enough that I was invested in what was going to happen to them. Caleb is adorable and deserves only good things.

Really excited to continue this series and see what we have in store for everyone. I will be eagerly awaiting Book 2!!

Thank you so much to NetGalley for the ARC to read and review, my opinions are my own πŸ’•

Easily 4/5⭐.

The pacing was great, the story kept me engaged and I was eager to find out what would happen next. A little clichΓ© sometimes (i.e. they're isolated, no signal or any way to contact anyone for help), without being totally predictable.

I really enjoyed the narrator, she did a fantastic job through the POV/Time changes.

I would honestly love to see this adapted into a film!!!

I am not the target audience for this at all πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆ. Oops.

I was looking for something spooky to listen to while I was cleaning today and snagged this on Libby. It was tagged "young adult" and "horror".

I feel like all the negative reviews on Goodreads are from people in a similar position.

This is definitely a short story for middle schoolers, and it's not really fair to review it just based on your disappointment as an adult πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‘.

I think my kids would find this fun. It's cute for what it is.

I need to learn how to DNF.

If you care absolutely nothing about plot, substance, and likable characters- if you're just in it for the smut and you skip everything else, you might enjoy it. I guess.

If I had to describe this in one word, it would be "insufferable".

Rachel is the least likeable FMC I've encountered in a while. She's literally the worst.

Here, please enjoy some lines that had me ready to walk across my farm and yeet my phone into my pond to cleanse it of ever having to house the audiobook:

"For a Sagittarius, you're doing a great impression of a Scorpio. Too bad for you, I'm a double fucking Cancer"

"Call me Ready, 'cause I'm whipped"

"Sorry, I'm a double Cancer and we're really emotional"
(To her BOSS πŸ˜‘πŸ™ƒ)

And then just from a "Who TF edited this?!" standpoint -
When she's getting reprimanded for sleeping with players on the team she works for, her boss says "effectively immediately" TWICE. It should be "effective immediately", but whatever I guess.

Can't wait to forget all about this.

Did I mention it's also just unnecessarily long? The audiobook is ~24 hours. 24 hours of Rachel being the absolute biggest POS.
