My head is spinning. I think I wasn’t in the right headspace to fully FULLY immerse so I’ll definitely reread eventually and it might inspire the 5th star.
As of right now I’ll refrain from a lengthy review and just limit myself to: Kallum Locke is one of the most complex characters I’ve ever met and I love him deeply.
A Game of Trust by A. M. Tufe

Did not finish book.
I received Game of Trust as an ARC.
As I, however, decided to DNF at ~30%, I’ll stick to explaining my reasons rather than reviewing the book.

In my opinion, some parts seem a bit rushed, a bit… fast paced in a way that unfortunately makes it hard for me to stay interested in continuing, not least because the writing feels bumpy to me.

Of course, this is very subjective. I’ve seen the other opinions and truly love that this book is appreciated by so many.

The story seems intriguing and the plotting isn’t necessarily bad. It’s just the writing style and execution that throws me off, personally.

I wish the author nothing but the best for the upcoming release and hope many more will enjoy the book even if it wasn’t for me.

I know, not everyone likes the novellas as much as the rest but Kenji is so sweet and hilarious and wholesome.. and there were some favorite moments in this one!

“Jesus Christ, woman, I look at you like I’m in love with you.”

The fight with Nazeera was amazingly written (like pretty much everything else) and I’m glad we got to see that interaction!

‘Warner needs a minute to pick out a cute outfit and braid his hair’

And after absolutely loving some of the character development in Defy Me, I enjoyed seeing more of the dynamics between Kenji and the other in this one. I know he has his own POV in Defy Me, too, but his novellas feel just extra special.

Love the love. Plot evolving, characters too. Grade a spice. But that plot twist hit..

I actually like the plot and the details and conflicts. I probably like them even more because of how the author chose to use the dynamics between characters to prolong the story without dragging it out.
And by dynamics I mean more than just the crazy amount of smut in these books. But it’s definitely part of it.

My song for Butcher & Blackbird: Chew On My Heart by James Bay

This review contains out-of-context quotes that could be considered spoilers

”You have never been unlovable. You were just waiting for someone who will love you for who you are, not for who they want you to be. I can do that, if you'll let me.”

This was not what I expected. It was so, so, so much cuter.

Rowan has my heart (although I have to admit that the few glimpses we got of his brother have me feel like I might end up falling for him even more - good thing the second book will be out soon
