This book felt like reading a dream which I guess makes sense because both her lives were dreams (not a spoiler, and kind of the point of the book). All the parts in the past had the feeling of someone trying way to hard to make things sound old timey, Shakespeare randomly became important to the plot in a very forced way and the book ending felt how it feels when your alarm clock goes off and you want to keep dreaming but your dreams no longer make sense so you just sit there in a haze.

I read this during exams. Very short and yet still enough. I liked the narration style; it felt like thoughts sound. The book itself is an opinion so I feel no need to state mine.

I decided to read this since the goose girl was a childhood classic and it’s the first retelling I’ve stumbled upon.

The plot was somewhat interesting but tended to drag on, and the romances felt forced. That was not helped by the fact that the main character, Vanja, just really annoyed me. Her self-centered and unlearning personality was clearly key to the plot but made her narration tiresome.

That being said I did finish the book. The subplot of the custody battle of her godly mothers was perfectly executed and absolutely hilarious. I would love a series that focused just around the gods because even the ones that were there for just a page were far more interesting then any of the human characters.
