The phrase “My sweet blue idiot.” made me laugh.
This is my first time reading a comic and I love the premise. The art is gorgeous and I love how colorful it is. I like the idea of Hell being cold. The story is really slow and the cut off point for the end of the book doesn’t make much sense. It ends at a low sad point in the story that made me feel icky.
I don’t care for the hyper sexualization of Persephone.

“What’s the point in wasting a perfectly good brick wall when you have someone to throw against it, that’s what I always say.”
The fourth installment in The Mortal Instruments series is very much a “bridge” from the first three books to the next two and it shows in the slow pacing. The story is pretty thin in terms of plot but it has enough drama to keep it (mostly) interesting.
Things I loved: how confident and powerful Clary is becoming, the ever glorious Isabelle and how the book is telling more of her story, TID character mentions, Downworld x Shadowhunter politics, and of course Alec and Magnus.

3.5. “Yet your mistrust cannot make me a traitor.”
Compared to other Shakespeare works I’ve read “As You Like It” falls a little flat.
I really enjoyed Rosalind and wish the story had more of her instead of the numerous unnamed side characters.

“I think you’ve gotten really good at talking yourself out of your feelings.”
This book made my heart so incredibly happy.
I love so much about this book: the discussions/portrayal of mental health, accepting and inviting in love, the slow burn, and the reality dating show element.
It all combined flawlessly.

“I try to tell my body to shut up, not to react, but obviously - obviously - my heart isn’t good at listening to me.”
This book was never quite what I expected it to be.
I love how it touched on cultural appropriation and all the different cultural aspects. I loved the ending.
It was a heavier story than I expected.
I didn’t really care for the insta-love aspect.

“… and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.”
Well that hurt as much as I expected it too. The Amsterdam portion was as magical and terrible as ever. The eulogy hurt my soul.
It’s still as pretentious and too metaphorical as I remember.

“I’ve wanted this…since I’ve known how to want.”
This is by far the weakest book of the three.
It feels like another 100+ pages are missing. So many things are left unresolved. It feels like very little of consequence actually happened in this story. I genuinely can’t believe Simon didn’t get his magic back, I’m honestly baffled. And the events of Wayward Son having no impact on the plot??
I liked a lot of aspects of this book but I’m feeling rather let down.

“You may not rest as long as I am living! You say I killed you - haunt me then!”
This book is definitely not for everyone. The characters are monstrous and selfish but god the story great. Awesome gothic atmosphere.

"People were watching them, unsure of what to make of two girls dancing with each other. It was bold. It was a statement.”
Things I loved: the atmosphere of the book, Rafael, the historical note the author wrote at the end, the awesome queer rep, and the friendships (both familial and made).
The pacing of the story felt very off, it slowed down considerably around page 200 and the end was wrapped up in like 10 pages. The reveal was pretty anticlimactic and it felt like a lot of loose threads were left even with the mystery solved.

2.5. “This is when a normal person would have run away screaming. I didn’t run.”
I love the art, the concept was great. Sapphic werewolves? Hell yes.
But it just missed the mark for me. Its a hard book to rate. A few places made me cringe. I wish some scenes were flushed out better.
