As a book lover and loyal Hallmark movie enthusiast, Book Lovers felt like it was written for me!

Emily Henry sets up the perfect small-town adventure, we have come to expect, while subverting select tropes that generally aim to change the workaholic, city-slicker main character. The story interrogates the cliché question, "Can women have it all?" in a refreshing way.

I enjoyed the development of Nora's inner world, seeing her rustle with grief, her relationships, and control issues. Any older sibling could relate to aspects of Nora's feelings towards her younger sister, Libby.

Finally, the conflicts throughout the story are realistic and not easily resolved. The tension is palpable and distressing. You may even cry a little bit like I did as you root for love to conquer life's complications.

Overall, a decent read. Shari Lapena did a good job at developing the motives of the various suspects and shifting who the reader thinks is guilty. However, I didn't really care who did it because I didn't come to care for any of the characters. The conclusion felt rather rushed and unsatisfying.

Ellen Archer was a fantastic narrator for this story. If you are interested in this story, I recommend listening to the audiobook.

The Joy Luck Club contains beautiful, captivating, and heartwrenching stories about the early lives of four women in China. It is difficult to conceptualize the hardship they each faced at such young ages; their strength truly is inspiring. It felt so intimate being invited into the Joy Luck Club, observing the deep, familial bond that these women have nurtured in America. They each attempt to impart their wisdom and lessons to their daughters, but their meaning is lost in translation across cultural and language barriers. It was lovely to see how these mother-daughter duos eventually connected as the daughters became adults themselves.

This book will certainly leave you with a warm feeling

The Stationery Shop has absolutely become a favourite of mine! I was swept up by the romance and felt deeply for these characters. This melancholic love story had me in tears many times.

I appreciated learning about the political landscape of Iran in the 1950s and beyond. Marjan Kamali did a fantastic job depicting how central the political unrest was in the personal lives of the characters. Overall, a lovely exploration of Persian culture, womanhood, immigration, mental health, love and loss.

Don't Call It a Cult: The Shocking Story of Keith Raniere and the Women of Nxivm by Sarah Berman

A chilling and thorough account of the disturbing events surrounding NXIVM. The facts are presented logically and understandably, despite there being so many people involved over so many years. It is haunting how this happened so recently, right under our noses. I think there is a lot to be learned in this book about the signs of manipulation and abuse, although that is not the book's goal. All in all, I praise Berman for her diligent research and dedication to sharing this story.

I recommend the audiobook!

I’ve never been overly drawn to stories about families, but gave this book a try based on recommendation. I was immediately captured by the Bird family’s hidden dysfunctions. There were so many unexpected twists to the story that took me by surprise. The love this family shares is undeniable and I definitely got emotional come the end.

I highly recommend this book to anyone!

Audiobook Note: I enjoyed how the storyteller used different voices to differentiate characters. There are a few instances where she puts on an Asian accent that gave me a bit of an uneasy feeling, so consider this before listening.

While I did enjoy this book, I didn't find myself compelled to pick it up...

It is a frustratingly accurate depiction of two people who are just so passive in their relationship. I so desperately wanted Connell and Marianne to be more open about their wants and needs, but they each had very realistic issues holding them back.

I enjoyed the exploration of mental health, coming of age, and finding yourself.

The romantic in me was hoping for a more satisfying ending, but such is life.

This is such an unsettling story for so many reasons. I love how my opinion of the various characters was constantly changing and being challenged. Many of the events described are outright disturbing.

Very frequent and highly detailed sex scenes, some of which didn’t really add to the story or character development in my opinion. I did however enjoy the romance elements of the story.

Overall super thrilling and engaging read!
