Sequel read to I Think Our Son Is Gay, Vol. 01

Cute. The characters' personalities are starting to become more fleshed out and interesting.

Character-driven graphic novel, but the main character is insufferable, flat, and boring.

I've never read Emma, nor seen the movie adaptation, so I'm not the most equipped to compare the original and this graphic novel retelling. The relationship dynamics at play were downright confusing and needlessly complex to follow. The art was nice, but didn't do much to complement the depth of the story. There were moments of real vulnerability, and they lasted one or two panels— it felt like the main character didn't go through a big enough change/shift, staying pretty consistent with their behaviors. I felt like I got a concept rather than a book.

This book is set in the same high school as Twelfth Grade Night. I guess it's the second in a series? Just with no overlap to the first book whatsoever, other than two characters in the background. If you were picking this book up without reading the first one, you'd be sorely confused as to why there are fairies in the high school. Hell, I read the first book, and I'm still confused about that as well.

It’s a shame because there was a really good message about gatekeeping in the queer community and what it means to be "queer enough". Unfortunately, the message completely fell through as an afterthought, buried under all of the petty drama that happens. This also had some of the most unlikeable characters I have ever had the displeasure of reading, all of them were awful, and somehow they all were forgiven in the end for shitty behavior that definitely would have continued.

I'm left confused as to why this had such a long waitlist at my local library...

This was such a cute little story. I marked it off stars because I wish it was longer and had a little more depth, to be honest.
One of Morgan's main worries throughout the story was coming out to her mom, and when she was outed by her brother there wasn't even really any major consequence. She was completely fine. I did really like how Keltie had to return to the sea for seven more years though. There was no rule-bending. I'd almost like to see what happens in seven years, if they reunite or not.

This book was... fine. It was pretty, I enjoyed the art style, but I think the story was really lacking. It felt boring at some points, and then the ending felt rushed. The romance between the two main characters didn't feel... romance-y
until Ari just randomly becomes clingy and decides to kiss Hector.
I wish the pacing were a little different. I wish I knew more about the characters (I suppose having a character who doesn't even know himself is a... choice), but I didn't really feel connected to these characters at all.

Cute! Not much was accomplished in this book, but it was a good introduction to the characters and their problems. Hopefully, the second volume moves the story along a little bit more (if I end up picking up the second volume, that is... I borrowed this one from a friend.)

Picked this book up from one of my local free little libraries. It was... fine. There are a lot of other poetry books that do a better job. This one felt very cliché. I put it back in the little free library, hopefully, it serves someone else better than I.
