An utterly worthy successor to "1491." Not to be missed.

The most enlightening and exciting book on American history I have ever read. When I learned that this text has made it into public school curricula across the country, I was beyond thrilled. Essential reading.

Edith Hamilton is one of the twentieth century's most vividly cogent and accessible writers on the ancient world. Were a young person to ask me for a book on Greek culture and its many icons, I would no doubt direct them first to Hamilton.

I picked this book up at an all too early age. It inflamed my depression, while yet providing me with the perspective and the resolve I would later need to overcome it. A fascinating treatise from one of the most austere cultures on record.

Eminently readable, though too often used as a pathfinder for the modern quotidian. Its wisdom endures, but its application narrows, as does any text that has spanned the centuries so. No matter. It remains worthy of great celebration. The less it is used, the more it can be enjoyed.

The most essential technical guide to poetry I have yet to come across.
