First 300 pages were great. The next 50 fell off a bit but still good. The last 100 were so bad. 20 pages.. time skip. 20 pages... time skip. And then one of the last pages had one of the worst scenes I've ever read. first of all, the ring? Only reason i can think of for the silver band and black sapphire is the constant mention of "gothic", but its so lazy? Pyro and klepto... make it gold with a ruby or orange and blue gems. Make an anecdote about how they met through theft and so he saw it and knew he wanted to start their lives together with it or smth about how she's fire personified and deserves a ring as passionate as herself idfk. The whole not giving her an option like not popping the question and the glue thing was cute and on point. Now for the worst line I've ever read... the fuck do you mean custom buttplug with "kohens little whore" on it. First of all, so many problems with that already. Second, I probably wouldn't care so much if there'd been more than two mentions of anal. It just came out of nowhere and honestly for no reason. I genuinely deducted a whole star for that.
All in all I'm sad bc I genuinely loved the first 70% and the talk about abuse and addiction. I love the klepto pyro stuff and their relationship was really cute. I just wish it kept the same pace or shortened the first half a bit to stretch out the ending bc it was rushed to shit.

My soul felt seen and touched and cradled in a warm hug of self forgiveness and acceptance. It also felt stripped raw and torn to shreds. It ended happily, yet I felt like I was dying. If you've ever struggled with any of the themes of this book, if you've ever connected or idolised mentally ill characters during hard times - don't be like me, reading it in one sitting. It was too impossible to put down, and now I feel lost.
In retrospect it has its flaws and some plot holes but as it's tagged as a fantasy I choose to ignore the logic and just feel.
