It took me a long time to write this review, mainly because it is difficult to express how bad the book is in words. I read this book as a buddy read with a friend, and the only reason it didn't completely suck was because we had a lot of fun trash talking it. Where do I start... If you take the romance out of this book, more than 90% of it would be gone. I enjoy a nice romance, but this was anything but. The main character (Diana) begins as a tall, strong, and independent woman (no, really), who is active, intelligent, and a complete person. As soon as she meets Matthew (who has a limited understanding of consent, but he's a vampire so apparently that's ok), she is morphed into goop and completely smitten with no free will (not that she wants it anymore, either way). In addition, I couldn't take the tea, yoga, or wine any longer. Among all the wine drinking, adoring gazes, and cloves smelling, the plot was only around ten pages long in this book. Which is a complete shame, because it had so much potential!! This book reads like a self-insert fanfiction poorly made. I read better fanfiction in my teens.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

This book, in my opinion, was a fitting conclusion to the Universe of Caraval. I was truly rooting for Jacks at the end, but I guess it just goes to show how wonderfully a character is created.
However, I must admit that there were times when there was so much going on that it appeared that the author had so many ideas for the book but instead of writing more pages and spacing the events out, she simply punched the speed button. In terms of plot, that was a terrible decision, but it was still an excellent read.
With the introduction of new characters and a more blurred border between what's real and what's not, the game of Caraval was much more exciting on this book. And the plot twists were fantastic. Also, Dante... there are no words.
As I already stated, it's worthwhile to read the first (even if I didn't enjoy it) in order to get to this one. It was a quick and enjoyable read.
I'm not marking this review as spoilers because I feel like I need to get my point across. First, I found this book for free on Bookbub and got it for Kobo. Since it was free, why the hell not.... Not even free should I have read this book, that's how much I hated it.
I give it a 1 star since at least it was somewhat well written. However, as for the story... I was so horribly written. I don't support cheating plots, at least not at this dimension. Blake is the most bland characters in history, I dreaded her POVs, honestly. She's a spineless, dumb, deceitufull and irritating woman. I couldn't appreciate the book since half the time I was trying so hard no to cringe. I somewhat cared for Casey, he was just a lovestruck idiot. But grow a pair, dude. It was embarrassing. Their friends were pieces of shit honestly, to support them in this, to let their friend be continuously hurt by a stupid woman that was duller than chalk. I can't comprehend.
This book was not for me. I actually don't know how I even read the whole thing. I'm not capable to stop reading a book that I hate, but that's on me.
I got this book for free on Kobo. Honestly, this book did nothing for me. I guess it's well written and all that but I could not, for the live of me, connect with the characters. I admire Kate for being a finance woman in times when that was frowned upon but in terms of character content and development it was meh. As for Will, he seemed charming enough but way too dramatic (which I get fits the part since he is an actor and all). Additionally, the sex scenes were so cringe I almost skimmed through.
