4.5

Such a satisfying book. It seems the author was frustrated with all the mediocre romance books out there and set out to rectify all that can go wrong. My least favorite trope is the couple who can’t seem to communicate. In this story there’s plenty of communication and witty, funny banter as well.  Yes, there is a troubling misunderstanding that propels the plot forward but I was never left thinking “This couple will never truly have an HEA because they just can’t talk about the important things”. They do discuss hard things but thanks to well crafted character arcs neither one can express that “one hard thing” that has wounded their soul, driving them apart. And then there’s the sex.  No story stealing, lists of panting anatomical parts here. The sex is plenty dirty but never sets the story aside.  It’s not just the required scenes in a spicy book. The sex thickens the plot. For now, I’ve only rated this 4.5 because this isn’t my favorite trope. I might reconsider if I decide I need to reread because it’s just that good.

A little different kind of romance with 4 main characters. All 4 are grieving in some way and join a self help group called Dear Life.  An inspiring and gratifying read.  I gave this lower stars because I thought one character could have been more realistically developed.
