"Who knew? I had no idea that someone could be such a thorn in your foot during a death march and still be irresistibly attractive in some magical, undeniable way." -Raphael

As much as I enjoyed their romance, isn't Penryn turning 18 just about when the book ends?

"We'll both be foolish, and vicious and cruel. We will never be safe with each other." -Nyx

I didn't realize I was close to finishing this until I picked it back up again after work.

The intrigue kept me going. Ignifex and Shade made me stay. Nyx lived in me.

This is one of the best Beauty and the Beast retelling I have ever read. There was so much element mixed into that it kept flipping through the pages.

I just love Nyx and Ignifex. Or Lux, I guess.

I was bored all throughout this series. The second book where she finally accepts she's the shit their world needs then come book 3!! I am screaming.

Alina, you flat character. -.-

I finished it but could not remember what happened.

"Can you set all that aside? Can you just see me? This can work. I don't know what my future will be, but right now and standing here in front of you. JJst me, nothing else. Peel the rest of it away. I'm just me in here, Cat." -Jesse

This was such a sweet read. It was short but it was a good read.

Broken and hurting Jesse Relic leaves Hollywood to grieve his friend, James. So he goes and stays with his grandfather he hasn't seen and forever.

Meets Catherine who works for his grandfather and pretty much an adopted granddaughter.

Simple.

But, while he was there, he was barely brooding and grieving aside from a couple moments but it was too focused on building the romance between them.

I didn't see a glimpse of an actual grief affecting his time while he was there. Cat finally finding out he's an actor is an expected reaction although she gave in and gave him a chance anyway.

We then get to see this big actor life that Jesse has towards the end. I was expecting a big, more complicated things to happen as he introduces Cat to his world. No big media blowup. I was kinda disappointed.

The ending where he pretty much proposed. . . she's only 19. It's like she doesn't really ever have a plan but to stay in the caves.

"Yesterday lasts forever.
Tomorrow comes never.
Until you."

My heart has been aching since page one.

"When the head is a fool, it is we, the hands and feet who suffer." -Baki

I'm excited for book 12.

Alosa is such a funny, badass, smart, beautiful heroine that I needed.

Her character is well-balanced with how she interacted with the Nigh Farer's crew. She was a funny character.

The whole book was exciting to read. She quoted Pirates of the Caribbean on her dedication page and I kinda get the reference of Kearan and Enwen. I loved it!

Riden. The only handsome crew of the Night Farer even though his brother is the Captain. I loved how they were somewhat friends and enemies at some parts although, it was made clear that he'll be the love interest in the beginning, it didn't quite feel right.

There was not a lot of tension between them and it seems that Riden is more confused and into her than she is. Which is fair since she's there for a mission but it could have gone better, is all.

Can't wait to read book 2. ❤

"So shut up about "destiny" and "inescapable fate"... you shouldn't whine about such trivial stuff." -Naruto

Naruto growing to be the best. I've seen the anime a million times but reading it and slowly absorbing how he's improving is a much better experience. ❤

▪︎▪︎▪︎The main characters:
•West Ashby - typical high school jock who is popular and is good at football. Grief stricken inside, however, as his dad slowly dies. No one else outside his home and the doctors know about it so he acts like everything is okay at school.

•Maggie Carlton - new girl in town, pretty and mute. She keeps silent after witnessing the murder of her mother by her father. She doesn't talk to anyone to protect herself from being asked about that night.

Side Characters:
•West Ashby's football buddies and bffs - pretty cool crowd. Not portrayed as the mean bunch like usual books.

•Rayleigh - West Ashby's ex-girlfriend. The "bitchy hoe" of the story.

▪︎▪︎▪︎The story:
West finally found someone to confide and let himself out to in the form of Maggie. He was the reason she talked for the first time after 2 years. And he gets to be the only one she talks to for a while. West grew attached to Maggie after telling her about his father and finding out how she also needed someone. They both understood the grief. In between all this, she ended up falling in love with him after just 3 weeks (roughly)!

Only the steam room scene mattered.
