I'm really glad this was gifted to me and that I didn't spend my own money on it.

*contains a small spoiler on who she ends up with. If the title does not make that obvious enough.*

I liked it but not really. We get a chain smoking 19-year-old and a vengeful 31-year-old as our main couple. Sort of a slow burn romance but I couldn't really connect with both MC. ;(

The first couple pages, The Outfit was mentioned. WTF is The Outfit? I didn't figure it out till probably at 15-20%. It was not clear at first what they did. It wasn't explained how things were operated. The whole time, Wolfe has been wanting to bring down The Outfit specially Francesca's dad - who I guess is the leader of this mobster? I don't really know, either.

Wolfe is a senator with a clean (?) name. It wasn't really clear about his reputation since he always attends an event where known mobsters are present. He's supposedly cutthroat and cold but like I said, we don't really get a very deep look into his senator life much.

Francesca Rossi is a sheltered, only-daughter of a big mobster. Not allowed to go to college and is only permitted for breeding. She spent most of her time planting and talking (Is that you, Bob? Bob Burgers?) to her plants. She loathed Wolfe till at least a week before their marriage. I liked that she grew a spine to finally talk back to her father and gained her rightful freedom.

What I disliked about her was the fact that she went and kissed Angelo in the rain just because Wolfe didn't pick her up. She had this chest that contains 3 notes that were supposedly clues to what her true love would/could do. Her last note said "He will shelter you." or something along that line. So she sends her assigned driver away and said her husband will pick her up. Just to test the note's prediction. So she ended up kissing her first love in the rain as someone recorded them and sent it to her husband.

But of course, he didn't come because he didn't know she was waiting for him. To make amend to this situation, in his POV, he said he planned to pick her up but he got caught in a meeting and got sent the video of her kissing instead. Communication is key, guys.

These two really could have saved so much time if Francesca could have been more a bit honest and Wolfe a bit more open about his feelings. These two are weak, AF. xD

I usually like some of L.J. Shen's works but this didn't do it and it dragged. 3 stars.

Thanks fore reading my rant. Hope it makes sense.

I wish I could rewrite you out of my life
But all your pages are highlighted
Dog-eared and thumbed to death
I can no longer read you
But you are still my favorite poem.

It's 2:30 am and this all I have. Brb when I have had enough sleep or sanity.

Edit for full review (kinda):

Bumping my rating to 4 stars to round up a 3.5 rating.

I have a love-hate relationship with this book. I really liked it but it's sooooo dramatic.

For high school students to have so much problem, drama, conflict, and so much revenge. I understand it's fictitious and anything can be conceived into a story and I liked those elements in this book.

The characters don't have that much depth in them. I read Broken Knight before this and it almost has the same theme of hurting-each-other-till-we-realize-we-actually-love-each-other. I might wait a while to read on Vaughn's story.

Everything just seemed to happen easily. Everything moved so smoothly that you just ignore it. My favourites were Penn's poems.

I don't know what to say besides I read this only to cleanse from fantasy cause I can't seem to get into the second book of An Ember in the Ashes.

I can't take it anymore.

It's 3 am and I'm supposed to be studying for my finals. But I went and read fiction instead. Dear God, don't fail me on Monday.

It took a while, but here it is.

Had to remove a star from the original 4 after a lot of thought about the book.

I liked it but I didn't enjoy it so much. I couldn't connect to Grey and Rhen. They're almost in the background. The twist wasn't surprising either.

I'm not so sure if I want to continue on book 2 as I know the story will shift and I'm not really sure. Maybe down the road. This is almost like Caraval. I ended up enjoying book 2 than I thought. But it might take me a while to pick it up probably.

I do like Rhen and Harper but there wasn't a lot of spark. I thought I saw and felt more of Grey than Rhen, and that could have been almost a premonition on how the story in Emberfall shifts.

We'll see. 3 stars for now. It lacked the feeling of excitement for me.

Repetitive.

I scanned through the last book and I still had a grip on what's going on.

The Thief of Souls keep visiting Callie in her dreams but they can't do anything about it till they figure who he is exactly. They finally did but still can't do anything till Des disappeared.

Their love was sweet in book 1 till it got too repetitive in book 2. They tease each other with sexual innuendos then they do their kink.

It goes till book 3 that my eyes are just rolling.

Everyone suggested this book as something similar to ACOTAR. The only similarity I find is fae, night king, and mate. Otherwise, the whole series is a 3 star compared to ACOTAR.

"Nothing ceases to exist. Energy does not perish, it merely changes forms. The ones you love, the ones you lose, they still exist as long as the cosmos does."

My God. That was beautiful. This quote just made me emotional and I haven't felt so strongly with a book before.

I was so confused at first, trying to follow who's who on what ship on which side of the truth. But once I got that figured out - the reading experience improved immensely. I just love it so much. I laughed a lot because the humour is just my type.

Eh. If you want smutty smut smut, this is it.

My relatives shall condemn me for reading this. I liked the characters but was not so into their relationship.

2 at best for me.
