Lore by Alexandra Bracken
3.0
(3/5)
I've always loved greek mythology, and Lore is a different yet great approach to an overused trope. I enjoyed the whole adventure, there was not chapters where I felt bored or uninterested. That said, it was a bit hard to grasp the main concepts of the Agon, the side characters, etc., at first, but there's a guide at the beginning and at the end of the book which helped a lot. But let's talk about the story itself:
I also enjoyed Castor and Lore's realtionship, and the brief moments between Miles and Lore or even Miles and Van. They had a sweet development...
I don't think there will be a second book, as the closure is what it needed to be (my only complaint is that it was a bit too "happy" and "disney-like") and very definitive. I will try reading other Alexandra Bracken's books, though.

I ended up really liking the characters, specially Lore, Castor, Miles and Van. Even Athena, at the very end. Her betrayal was really dirty but I think the book honored her character and gave her the ending she deserved. The story in general, not only that scene in particular, kept surprising me. Notably, Castor uncovering as the new Apolo, Gil as Hermes, Castor's "death"... I think maybe it's because I haven't read a lot in a while, but the polt twits really caught me off-guard.I also enjoyed Castor and Lore's realtionship, and the brief moments between Miles and Lore or even Miles and Van. A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas
2.0
I usually have a soft spot for the main characters. However, this book has proved me how wrong I was about this.
The only reason that got me to finish the book is Cassian... Barely. The story tries to present Nesta as a complex character, a morally (dark) grey one, yet fails miserably and she is just... An asshole. All the time. Her redemption is almost non-existent to me, mainly because her ambitions and the excuses for her behaviour don't make any sense. In the slight moments that I think they could, she backstabs someone again and all the progress on my attempt of liking the character (and I really really tried, I mean, I read 700 pages of it) disappears. She constantly talks about Feyre being a bad sister, during the whole book, even if she already forgave Nesta's mistakes, which are A LOT and much more hurtful. Nesta is self-centered and disrespectful the whole book, and this never changes.
The valkyries thing doesn't make any sense either. It is just ridiculous. I wasn't expecting much realisim from this series but continiously over-powering literally the worst character of it was the worst thing of the book.
The only thing I learned with this book is how important it is to have a main character with an actual morality, one that makes sense at least, either good or evil, and how much I miss Feyre and Rhysand.
I only give 2 stars to it because: 1) Cassian (even though I like him way less after reading this), and 2) each scene in which someone tells Nesta to fuck off.
