Sky Full of Elephants by Cebo Campbell

Honestly, I found myself so intrigued by the overall concept and I am very glad that I've read it. It's cause very provoking thoughts and conversations in my life and has led me to evaluate a lot of how I live.
However, I think that the book itself was a little hard for me to read because I kept getting sucked in and then pulled out? I'm not exactly sure why. But yeah, I also loved the idea of Black consciousness as fuel but that ending...

And is always **** white people :)
I must say, I would like to learn more about Leroi Jones as an activist to know if his activism included Black feminism and the LGBTQ+ community because of some of the content.
But both plays were incredibly thought provoking and he created such interesting world for a Black man to be in. The scenarios were close to bizzare but not that far off to what could really be.
The Dutchman is so frickin wild. Lula is detestable, Clay pissed me off until he didn't and then he pissed me off again.
The Slave was not at all what I thought it would.
But what is this fascination with his Black male characters being intimate with white woman :/

It such a hard start but once I was in, I WAS IN!
One thing about Octavia, everything will correlate to slavery. But what fascinated me the most was the entire theme of control and connection. "How free do you think you are now? " NO LIKE LITERALLY because now, how free are we fr fr?
BUT I ALSO LOVE the fact that to gain strength you have to essentially build a community of people that are like you...YES like minded communities for the win
AND I'm a Teray and Amber rider till I did

I have to say, Celie is one of my favorite fictional characters written. I loved the writing style of the novel so much, it creates something so raw and immersive.
This book is just so gay but so heartbreaking that I went through so many emotions throughout. Each character is simply a product of society and the commentary on Black american's relationship to Africa was such an important aspect of this book.
Oh Alice

"We remain because this is our home . We both have lost land here. Should we leave it all to them? I will not."
Seeing how living as a Black person has changed yet stayed the same in this way was fascinating . It was also really interesting to see a Black vampire navigating how life can fulfill her.Trying and experiencing so many things to end up back in a world in which your freedom is limited was such a twist too. Similar to Octavia Butler the future is not romanticized in anyway, and for that I am grateful.
BIRD AND GILDA FOR THE WIN. LOVE THEM DOWN.

WILD. Fever dream-esque even.
Gotta love colorism and racism in a play. But honestly it's a fascinating way to portray versions of self, and even more so because it's her mind before death. It's A LOT though.
