I enjoy Alyssa Cole's take on romance. However, I had a few issues with this story:

1. I really wanted to know how Nya's father ended up in this story. His level of narcissism was on another level, yet, the Thesolonian government and Nya's grandparents all just brushed it all off. This was beyond insane to me when the man purposefully made his child and himself ill to control her.

2. Likewise, I'm concerned about how the young character, Lukas, was not really reprimanded for their behavior doing the book's ending. Mind you, I get them being confused, and lashing out a little, but they almost hurt a whole CULTURAL INSTITUTION in their country because they couldn't come out and be open about their identity and be upfront with their family. While this is an action (e.g., lashing out at loved ones) that would be true to form of a child that is developing and coming into their sexuality and confused, I honestly could not see a child as well-watched as Lukas and as well-trained as he was said to have been going out his way to destroy his family's legacy just because he was trying to express himself. And, furthermore, how would someone in his position have got away with it so easily!?!

3. Cole attempted to make Johan bisexual, I guess, but she literally only dedicates two sentences to this part of his sexuality, which is once in passing with Greta mentioning his bad boy image and when Johan tells his sibling that he isn't necessary straight as a way of bonding with him. In no other instance does Johan mention being attracted to men. As a matter of fact, when thinking of Nya and seducing her, he goes on these long mental monologues about how he's seduced other women before her, and how he has to be careful with her because she's fragile.

This is a 3.5 star book for me.
