Lawson's story was definitely everything I thought it was gonna be and it was perfection. Amazing. I really love that these two have this connection, but don’t really know each other in the beginning. Seeing the connection grow and develop was so heartwarming. Haley was just such an amazing character. Her backstory is heartbreaking, but I loved seeing her grow and flourish during her time with the Hartleys. In previous books, readers got to see how Lawson was struggling with being a single dad, and the chief of police, but very surface level. Getting the backstory was really satisfying, plus his kids are a freaking whole mood. Charlie, Drew, and Luke brought so much to the story! I enjoyed each of their connections with Hallie so much. It was also really good to find out why Luke was acting the way he was acting!

I want to highlight that I sincerely appreciate how Catherine Cowles portrayed all of the mental health that the characters were dealing with. There’s a moment in this book where Luke brings up a very sensitive topic in a very insensitive way, and Haley‘s response is absolutely perfect. Catherine Cowles did such an amazing job at creating a healthy and supportive mental health plotline. I’ve seen a lot of authors really mess this up, and I cannot express enough how much I appreciate how everything was handled in this book. I cried all kinds of tears during this one.

Lawson definitely had an amazing story, like I knew he would, but Roan is still my favorite. Seeing Ronan show up in this book was so fun, and seeing him with Cady and Aspen was just everything. It’s been really fun getting to know the Hartleys and I’m very excited for Catherine Cowles' new series. We get to meet one of the main characters of Fragile Sanctuary in this book, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what his story is after seeing that he’s messy and a little broken.

I definitely recommend this book and I love that Catherine keeps giving us the stories that keep me guessing keep me in enthralled in Demi to the characters and they’re deep back stories. This book is a reminder of why Catherine Cowles is an auto-buy author me.

I seriously enjoy Keri Lake’s writing and the worlds she builds! I read Nocticadia, one of my favorite books in 2023, and so I am diving into her backlist. The gothic romance vibes are just so good! I definitely saw the twists and turns coming in this one, but I still enjoyed the journey. I’m looking forward to reading more of Keri’s books.
