This book was almost a DNF at around a 100 pages because I started it when I eas really sick. But I picked it back up as a plane read for vacation months later and I ended up really liking it! At about the halfway mark I had finally gotten to where I understood the setting and was invested in the characters.
which made all the characters dying super fucking impactful lol. My heart for Bug and Nazca in particular
I think I could have a 5 star in later books. The ending was satisfying but I am bummed the next book is obviously gonna be in a different place I had just gotten a handle on camorr lol. But this one took just a little too long to get me invested in the characters. Still a great bookk but not quite a 5.

This was a greag book! I will be thinking about it for years to come i can tell. And it had exactly the right kind of ending for a horror book imo.

This is a fantastic middle grade horror! I am going throigh a lot as book research and it stands out for sure!
Love the authors writing style and loved the characters. Genuinely spooky! Not terrifying but the vibes are chilling, full of dread. Reminded me of over the garden wall in a lot of ways. Maybe the aesthetics.

I love Mary Roach's style. Every book is a joy and this one has kept me busy for months!
I loved the subject matter, learmed a lot and had to question some if my biases.
Would be a 5 except i could not read more than a chapter at a time and i started avoiding it. Wish i hadnt started it with my kid because i think it slowed me down.
But i am so glad i finished because i got a ton out of it, including laughs.

Honestly the last half of this book is close to a five for me!
Had some spooky moments even for me as an adult (definitely not the target reader). Really appreciated the foreshadowing it was set just right.

This book was so good! I can definitely see myself reading more if it continues into the series.
So many beautiful settings and interesting characters! Just a great example of one of my favorite subgenres.
I think reading it as an ebook was a mistake. Formatting was a bit weird and also too easy to fall away for a moment because i read on phone. It somewhat dulled the impact.
A book to be binged for sure!

This may be my favorite of the series so far! I loved that the home life felt very front and center again in this volume and Faunus (Kitty!) Is easily my fave duskwalker. I have never read a FMC quite like Mayumi, she is a breath of fresh air :)
There wasnt as much lovely world building as the first two books but what it has packs a punch. I am sad their book is over! I could have read much more.

I didnt like this nearly as much as the myths and monsters series but this author does a great job keeping me reading. There's always a lot going on and high stakes and good forshadowing.
It feels a little bit like a Suicide Squad fanfic which is fun in its own way. Very funny in places. But only one character felt well built to me the rest rang more hollow. (Lol)and since the plot cant really hold the book together it suffered.
I do think that this book will hit well for many long time paranormal romance readers.

Seriously it was as if a CW horror romance got an x rating and was translated into a book. Tons of drama, quipping, fighting.
I will probably devour like 3 more books by this author immediately if im being honest. My only real complaint is while the spicy elements and emotional elements are strong atmosphere and plot were very weak in big sections.
I had a surprisingly good time but this is definitely only for monster romance readers its not gonna cross genres. Beware!
