i don't think I'm gonna rate this book. honestly a lot of borings moment, this book could be way better if it was shorter but Amy is a really well written character i hated Amy, when I watch the movie i was an Amy's apologist but after reading the book and taking the time to think about it, i got to the conclusion that she is just a narcissist like a divorce would be way better and easier and she could have a good revenge by taking back her money for The Bar,but no she prefer Nick to pass the rest of his life in prison and even potential being rape by prisoner (yes she actually said that), also her being a narcissist make so much sense cause they are really good at gaslighting and make people on her side yes I'm talking about the Amy's apologists i do prefer the book than the movie cause it show way more of Amy mind and also cause the book is now on my mind
their relationship was not really developped, when they refound each other after 50 years, the mc just care about how her family would reacts and about having a divorce than the fact she reunion with the love of her life
I'm pissed off that this isn't marketed as a ya cause it's clearly is, i also don't think it should be categorized at LGBTQ, it's only in the end that it's talked about
Could me 5 stars if it was shorter. A amazing depiction of family and human flaws. Sometimes I wanted to come in the book and yell at some of them (Byron) but yeah it's realistic.
Zohra asks, "Is it a white middle-aged man?" "Yes." "A white middle-aged American man walking around with his white middle-aged American sorrows?" "Jesus, I guess so." "Arthur. Sorry to tell you this. It's a little hard to feel sorry for a guy like that." "Even gay?" "Even gay."
I don't even think that the reason why this book is so boring it's cause he has plenty of privilege but just cause he is really boring. I want to compare this book with catcher in the rye cause both plots are really similar (men, white American, gay ? and theirs sorrow) the thing is one has personality and the other one don't.
the father think that his son is not okay cause he wears dresses but only few pages later he fully accept him and wear a dress in front of the whole kingdom, be serious we need more build up like at atleast a conversation between the two. also the fact that he decide to accept him cause he see that someone love him for who he is but not cause he is happy like that kinda pisses me off
i just liked this quote : "so the girls get jailed and fined for prostitution, and vilified in society as someone who does this for easy money. the girls who died in the process - the ones who are beaten to death or the ones who kill themselves -they don't even make the news."
