I'm a sucker for detective series...and this first outing with Tony Hill and Carol Jordan didn't disappoint with suspense, characters or plot. The only reason that I didn't rate this novel higher is that it seems terribly dated. Now, that is often to be expected in a police procedural, but there were other aspects that just rubbed me the wrong way. Primarily I'm talking about the descriptions of gay men...they all go cruise for anonymous sex and all seem to fit into a vague stereotype while living in "the gay village". Also disturbing was the character of the killer, yet another tragically deranged transgendered female - a stereotype we've fortunately begun to see fade.
I will happily read further books in this series, knowing this novel is very much a product of its time. The characters and writing we're good enough to make me want to read more..but I'm glad this particular case is closed.
