The main message of To Kill A Mockingbird lies within the title. The author described mockingbirds as innocent. They don't pester other birds, they don't nest in inconvenient places, the only thing they do is sing, and yet they are often hunted. This applies to both birds and humans in real life. An example of a human mockingbird in this book is Arthur Radley. He was always feared and shunned because he was different. Others gossiped about him despite never  having talked properly to him, despite him being a good person. In the end of the book Arthur was understood and seen for who he was, though the same cannot be said for Tom. As I see it, Tom Robinson is the so called "Mockingbird" in the title of this novel. He was a good person, a hard worker, and a good father, and yet others took advantage of his good traits and wrongly accused him of raping a girl who assaulted Tom first. The father of the main character of the novel tried his best to defend Tom, but none of the townspeople believed in Tom's innocence because of his race. Before anything could be proven, Tom was shot for trying to escape jail and see his family.
This can be compared to the hunting of Mockingbirds in the wild, killed without a good reason.
Along with the main problem of the story(racism and racial bias) Harper Lee does a very good job of incorporating many different real world issues that are problems even to this day. Such as gender inequality, Adolf Hitler, views on poverty and others. She shows this in the form of the main character's experiences as well as the main character's biased opinion on the world as a young girl in a small white town in Alabama.
The one thing I truly dislike about this book would be the main character. Despite being chosen to represent issues with gender equality the girl was extremely spoiled and lacked any sort of knowledge or understanding despite growing up with a knowledgeable father and an older brother. I believe at least a bit more insight to the events of  the story would have made the book even more meaningful.
I also found it a bit difficult to follow the plot at times due to the author imitating the accent of the characters in the dialogues, but this does make it easier for the readers to visualize the setting.
While reading this book I wasn't able to appreciate the full meaning of the story and events due to the pacing, but in hindsight I now better understand the thought and effort the author put into the book. The way Harper Lee writes makes it seem as if she experienced these events herself and is telling it from her memory Authors nowadays would likely not be able to write about these issues so accurately.
Overall, I would not say I particularly enjoyed this book, but I believe it is a good book and I would say very important to read or study at least once in your life.

DID NOT FINISH: 79%

It was really disappointing, I liked the first book in this series and I had really high hopes that this book would be a good conclusion to the series. But instead the plot was slow and boring, the characters didn't recieve any more development from the first book and the world building was lacking.

This is just a copy of six of crows in a different world with vampires. The plot was ok, but not particularly creative.

This book was a bit slow in the beginning but had a good twist. It's not very memorable though.

This was a really good book, the character development was definitely one of the best I've seen in a ya contemporary book. And I think the author did a very good job of incorporating a lot of different topics that are important in real life.
