This book is a very complicated book. There are a lot of emotions and messages in it that are hard to understand. I think that's the point of the book, that life isn't always easy and your own emotions aren't always understandable. Also, that you shouldn't be ashamed or try to hide from who you are.

It wasn't written well, and was slow. The world is interesting but the characters just annoy me. This book had a lot of potential but I think it was wasted.

I liked the story and world but the ending was a bit rushed and there was no conclusion to a lot of the characters, but considering there is another book coming, the ending doesn't matter as much. Also, this book is really good for a debut novel.
This book was ok for the first 70%, then everything just went away.First of all, I thought it made 0 sense how maddie went from no immunity from anything stepping outside and being completely fine for the first 3 days having more contact to germs than normal(airplane, travelling) shouldn't she at least have a cold? The fact that her mom was able to ship Maddie who had a heart attack from Hawaii to wherever while she was unconscious also didn't make sense. After that we find out that Maddie is actually not "sick" (has SCID) and her mom has a mental disorder. This lady went from an organized professional docter to extremely confused, triggered by what exactly? The revelation wasn't that big. I feel like Maddie was just taking Ollie for granted, at the end of the book Maddie just shows up in his life after throwing him away and he's that happy to see her. Overall the plot was predictable, confusing, unrealistic, and the characters were very shallow.
