DID NOT FINISH

i actually don’t know why i continue to read books i simply know will disappoint me

mariana zapata’s MMCs make me feel like i can fix them

mariana zapata has me in a chokehold for reasons i don’t quite understand.
her men are actually the worst but it makes me want them desperately.
yes, please, treat me like absolute shit and then do a 180. i love u

i felt like vomiting 50% of the time and crying the other 50% … *chef’s kiss*

this book was absolutely fabulous - the first 5⭐️ book i’ve read in a long while.

it was thought provoking and engaging and i couldn’t put it down. i spent the entire book questioning my own belief system, which is a beautiful thing.

do i believe in the death penalty? does ansel deserve to die this way?

it was beautifully written, on top
of that. i was able to empathize with every character deeply, which is the cherry-on-top of this concept.

overall i loved this book. no notes.

this book went in a direction i was not expecting, but i loved the path it followed.

much funnier than i expected (and much less intense/suspenseful). i liked Dr. Grace as a character but i LOVED Rocky. ultimately i found the ending to be spectacularly done and the character development was *chef’s kiss*

i will absolutely be reading more by Andy Weir

I needed a snack, and this book did what it needed to do.

It was a decently-written small-town cowboy romance book. I feel like that is essentially all you need to know about it. It wasn't anything to write home about and I will forget the characters by tomorrow. But, in between some heavier reading, it was a nice breather.

Audiobook Review

The Irish accents in this audiobook were the cherry on top of the proverbial cake. Genuinely, if I had read this book instead of listening to it, there is a 0% chance that I would have finished it. But thanks to the narration, I came back time and time again.

The overarching plot and concept of the book were well done. The author's ability to dance around incredibly harsh topics, while stringing the romance alongside the plot, I found to be done well and interesting. The first book was good enough to get me to read the second, but the second book was carried by supporting characters (ie. Gibsy). Johnny and Shannon, both as a couple and as individual characters, fell off for me around the halfway point of this book. Although, I don't think it is the fault of the characters themselves, but more in the book's length. While I can appreciate the need to add length to the story to support the difficult plot points, Walsh overdoes it in this book (and her first). The books progress incredibly slowly, and for a good deal of it, it feels as if nothing of note or worth is happening in the story.

Although I liked this book and the first, the sheer time-spent-reading to reward ratio was not there; I'd rather spend my time with other books.
