Leather and Lark by Brynne Weaver

Honestly, if you loved Butcher & Blackbird for its gore, brutality and spiciness...you may be disappointed with this. I was so looking forward to reading this after the first book but it just fell flat. The first book succeeding in making me uncomfortable and cringe in horror but with this book I kept flipping pages being like 'that's it'?
Now it's not a terrible book, but I felt that all aspects of it (romance, murder, plot twist) were extremely slow burn. I had like 70 pages left and was wondering when I was going to be amazed.
3/5 because the writing itself is good but the plot felt lacking to me. Still having hope for the final book in the series, fingers crossed.

Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver

Really rating it 4.5
Gory, gruesome, dark but great comedic timing. Friends to lovers trope done seamlessly.
The murder descriptions are a bit uncomfortable but I grew up on Criminal Minds and Forensic Files so I wasn't too bothered.
Only .5 because the murder slows down completely and then its just a love fest for 2 chapters, you completely forget that they are serial killers then a filler period then straight back to killing.
The Act 3 plot twist was genius, I had to flip back to confirm I was reading things right.
Would recommend to a friend!

Verity by Colleen Hoover

I'll be honest, I guessed the plot 1/3 way through the book. What makes it worth reading is how twisted it is. I read this on the train and had to close it and take a breather a few times. Get ready to feel uncomfortable, icky and curious during this read.

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
5.0
Well written, kept me on my toes. Every word, sentence and chapter had meaning. There was no filler, it was a well-paced novel. Half way through I felt like I needed a murder board to keep track of names and stories, so glad they mentioned the FMC putting one together to figure it out.

Powerless by Lauren Roberts
5.0
Ugh this book was great! It was the right pace, and I adored the dual POV. It was a lengthy read but I would do it again. I'm not typically a Romantasy lover, but this book made me a fan.
The idea of being Ordinary (powerless) or having powers is a topic books and movies have explored before, but Lauren managed to make it new and exciting. I fell in love with the characters with each chapter, they earned my sympathy, anger and joy. I immediately ran to get the 2nd book to know what happens next and I can't wait for Lauren to release the final book in the Trilogy.
4.7 / 5 would recommend. I just would've enjoyed more time spent in the Trials but the details we did get were well explored.

A Touch of Chaos by Scarlett St. Clair
3.0
This book was like its title, chaotic. I don’t mind switching POVs but some felt unnecessary and long winded considering this series is supposed to be Hades x Persephone. Gods dying every chapter took the magic out of a mythological read. 85% of the book was fighting, death, spice…and then that last 15% the ‘good gods’ just managed to defeat the ‘bad gods’ and win? Ending was very rushed.
But I will say that the writing itself was good, Scarlett never misses with describing a scene, weapon, gore or outfit.
Side note: where was Poseidon??
