I found it very difficult to get through this book. The story and characters were uninteresting, and I didn't really understand the point most of the time.

Don't we all read this series because of Jacks? lol. At this point, the main reason I read this series is because of Jacks. I like Evangeline, too, but Jacks just hits differently.

The story is interesting from time to time, but not as much as Caraval. The same goes for the side characters. Most of them don't feel necessary or interesting most of the time.

They could have just removed the whole Becca and Theresa story. It felt very unnecessary, in my opinion. They should have replaced it with more focus on Elsie's relationship with Ada and how Joan is affecting it. That would make more sense to me. I just wish there were more conflicts for Elsie between Ada and Joan.
