Bride by Ali Hazelwood
April 2024
I inhaled this book in 24 hours. If that's not a sign it was meant for me, I don't know what is.
Pros
- I started reading this book because Ali Hazelwood rocks and I am a romantasy girl at heart but damn if I wasn't surprised by the amount of plot this book had. This wasn't just about a Vampyre bride and her Were betrothed. This Vampyre had things to do, people to save! Finding a hottie alpha to fall in love with was a side quest she didn't even know she would take!
- Misery resonated with me immensely. If I had been sacrificed twice for my species I'm pretty sure I'd be numb to the world too. Her growth over the book was beautiful to behold.
- Ana stole every scene she was in, of course
- Lowe was special. I loved seeing his snippets of thought at the start of each chapter. I wish we had more. His Alpha moments were divine. I love an Alpha that doesn't need to demand, guilt, force respect. It is just there.
Cons
- I love a dual POV, and instead we got a few lines at the start of each chapter of his thoughts. Cute, enough to intrigue me, but overall I just wish he had some chapters.
- Misery at points was an idiot. I disagree that she wouldn't have figured out Lowe's feelings towards her sooner. Though Ali Hazelwood did set it up in a way that was mostly believable.
- I wanted moreeee. I'm sad to leave that world behind.
- I wish there was a map :P

23/2/25 - re-read
- I inhaled this basically in one sitting (talked to my boyfriend for like an hour in between) and was so thrilled to re-enter Misery and Lowe's world.
- Misery might be my favourite Hazelwood main character. Her apathy and yet abundance of care for the world around her hooked me immediately and is one of the vibes I remember most from the book
- First time around I don't think I remembered all the little moments for Lowe as what they would become. Reading them second time around
I could feel the tension and pining and the pure force it takes for him not to take over and say you're my mate over and over. - As always Hazelwood is a consent queen and this applied even with
Lowe and the matehood bond. The fact he wouldn't admit it to Misery until she fully consented to that being what she wanted... To die for. - I want their to be a sequel soooo bad
