Holy smokes đŽâđ¨ There is a reason Esther Perel is a GOAT for me. This book was fascinating, validating, eye opening, and went by really quickly! This book is for anyone who has ever been, is, or desires to be, in a committed, long term relationship. Iâm going to go so far as to say itâs required reading for any therapist who works with relationships or couples - although the book does not read dry or clinical at all. This book certainly isnât an all encompassing text, but it does open your mind and hopefully leads to more curiosity and exploration for yourself (it did for me).

Highly recommend as an audiobook! Story is heavily character driven so the personalities are so important in the telling. I couldnât have read it the same in my head.
Great writing - really engaging and human, emotional at times, and a realistic depiction of the impact of substance abuse on individuals, generations, and communities as a whole. Itâs a lengthy book and probably not for everyone.

Likes:
* Good use of Southern tropes - small town dynamics, racial tension, religious overtones, classism/money, and the time old fight of good verses evil. These tropes gave a real âpresent dayâ feel to the novel, even if they were a little uncomfy at times.
*Great pacing = quick and easy to get into! The characters were easily likable (or not) and you didnât have to work hard to keep storylines straight.
*Suspenseful without being creepy or scary - wonât keep you up at night.
*Southern colloquialisms and one liners of wisdom
