The expression of mundane life in this was more than mundane. I found myself engaged in reading about day-to-day life without being bored. The ending almost rendered a mystical tone to the book.

The book was written well although I hate the fact that I knew who the murderer was from the get go. I found myself favoring Poppy's POV more than Serena's. Her character had more depth than Serena's at times especially in the middle of the book. One thing I do however love about Serena's POV is how the author showed the effects of trauma on someone.

P.S. For anyone wanting to read this book, there are several trigger warnings such as grooming, sexual assault and abuse.

There are some things that I wish was developed more and certain points where the story seemed rushed. Although I am also looking at this with adult eyes so it might be perfectly paced for a younger audience.

Overall the story was engaging as well as providing a historical narrative that I never thought about. It also evokes empathy especially when the narrative is not applicable to you.

A great story of adventure and the storytelling was amazing. I loved learning tidbits about characters from different books. My favorite thing is seeing quotes from famous authors spread throughout the details of the drawing and also some of the dialogue.
