I was not the target audience for this book, and I think I would have eaten it up if I read it 15 years ago. I thought the characters were very raw and real, and I can relate to being at a school feeling like an outsider. The writing is beautiful, and Greene has a way with a metaphor.

Loved every second. Enjoyed the tension and the “he fell first and hard” trope but also how he let her catch up and helped her find herself while addressing his own faults. The science-y jargon was so well written into the story, too!

This series had me in a CHOKEHOLD! How could such a morally dark dark grey MMC be so damn charming? 10/10 writing!

I love this series. This book had everything - answers, further questions, slow burn, found family, love, adventure! I can't wait for the final book!

This was a re-read for me! Preparing for the next book, Fate of the Sun King.
So much better the second time around! I loved it the first time, too, but there was something about knowing the characters better. And I forgot just how SPICY this was! Going from a MMC that was a golden retriever in the last book I read to Nadir who is anything BUT GR, was...whew!!

Favorite of the series so far? Loved meeting even MORE characters, exploring new parts of the Empire, and getting Mak’s POV. The adventure was adventuring!!

Continue to love Lio. Cassia I go back and forth on. Loved getting to go to the empire. Can’t our girl catch a break, though?!
