Wow! Nothing in this book was what I thought it would be and is so different from the KMod books I've read thus far. I enjoyed it though. It kept me on my toes. I really enjoyed this and can't wait to tackle the next KMod book!

FYI, this has a romance element and I'd give it a 🌶️ pepper spice rating but it wasn't anything explicit.

OMG!! Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Ellie Cosimano is hands-down the funniest hot mess mystery I’ve ever read. From duct-taping her daughter’s hair/hat to stumbling into a murder-for-hire plot, Finlay and her ride-or-die Vero kept me laughing out loud the entire way. Shout out to Angela Dawe for her phenomenal narration—her ability to give each character a unique voice left me in awe. I’m still in shock that this was a one-narrator audiobook! I can’t wait to dive into the rest of the series. This book is pure chaos in the best way!

This story deeply explores love, loss, and second chances with two mature protagonists. Dr. Dresden Xavier, a widower and father of twins, and Harper Kingsley, a professor caring for her ex-husband who has cancer, come together through a groundbreaking medical trial. Their shared experiences evolve into a tender connection filled with vulnerability and healing. The pacing slowed a little in the middle but then I was hit with an emotional moment in the story. Another mature heartfelt moment happened around Dresden’s 45th birthday. His actions felt the maturity and depth of their connection.
If you love Black romance and second-chance love, you should read this heartfelt story.

I do want to make a note of the audio narration. It was not my favorite. With some narrators, you can feel the emotion and feelings as they are narrating but I did not get this from this narrator. This really should have been a dual narration. I also had the ebook so I was able to read along and listen.

I am so sad that this is the last book of the Heywood Herbalist series. However, it is a good one to end as the town doctor dies. If you've read the other books in the series, you will know that he and Sam have history and Sam is the #1 suspect. This is personal for Sam and she will not stop trying to find who did it and keep her name clear.
