I’m so glad I did the tandem read with Empire of Storms! I can’t imagine finishing EoS and jumping into something that didn’t immediately pick up where the story left off. I appreciate the character building, but it at times felt like I was just eager to get to the important information. Chaols constant regression into his self pity made it harder for
his romance with Yrene to be believable. She just deserves better.
I do appreciate the ends
nod to disability rep and how it doesn’t take away from humanity or quality of life.

I read Assassins Blade after Heir of Fire and I think that’s the perfect reading order. While I was anxious to take a break from the story I’ve been invested in, there’s callouts in each story that are referenced in the first three TOG books that helped guide where the short stories take you. It was hard to get through the first two stories, but I was so invested by the third. Even though readers know where it’s going, it’s still so devastating by the end

Such a cozy and comforting read. Low stakes fantasy but with a plot that is still engaging

Her anticipated sequel fell a little flat to me. It felt rushed and the dialogue was painful, especially between Violet and Xaden.
Violets constant wanting to die for the greater good is so repetitive and too altruistic for me.
Also Rebeccas writing style feels so millennial to me. I rolled my eyes when she writes things like ā€œmom and dad are fightingā€ and ā€œI want to be you when I grow upā€.
Her characters need more explanation behind actions.
Her mom sacrificing herself felt a little lazy and in order to make it work, I think she needed to explore deeper the relationship with her daughter and the trauma she caused Xaden.
I’m hoping that she was just pushed too fast to release this one and she takes her time on the next one.

As opposed to the first one, I flew through this one. I loved getting more perspectives and the best plot lines from the first bled into the second.
and the end! I’m so excited for this crossover
