I'm so broken. I loved this book so much. Vanessa how did you manage to take so many things I love and put them into a book? (OK ok I know this wasn't just written for me 🤣🤣🤣🤣)

If you all haven't pre-ordered When the Tides Held the Moon by Venessa Kelley, what are you even doing with your life?

This was so beautiful. The drawings, the characters. It gave me all the Shape of Water, Greatest Showman vibes, while also being unique and completely its own thing. Beyond that, a story of a Puerto Rican immigrant in New York, fighting his way just to survive, with an abundance of untranslated language that gives so much depth and character that made me want to learn more about the culture.

This book is so needed right now. #resist

Thank you kensington books, Vanessa Kelley, and netgalley for the chance to read the advanced copy of this book.

Thank you, NetGalley, and the publisher for the ARC. This is my honest review.

An incredibly fun, spooky, chaotic romp through turn of the century Scotland. I loved the juxtaposition of two serial killing real historical figures against our poor sweet MCs.

I loved this book, I thought the character development was done well. The story wasn't the best I've ever read, but it was still throughly enjoyable. It's so nice to see LGBTQIA characters in all settings, not just rom coms.

Utterly haunting and beautiful, this is the type of book I want to see more of. I don't think there is anything I would change.

The story was full of mystery, I really enjoyed how much I was unsure about characters, trying to figure out if they were "good or evil".
Our MCs were completely delightful, even when they were doing bad things. 🤣
There is something i really enjoy about the gray area, and showing that characters don't have to be perfect.

Plus the MONSTERS ARE AMAZING.

Not for the Faint of Heart by Lex Croucher

Go to review page

Did not finish book. Stopped at 50%.
I really tried several times to read this book, and it took me much longer to get through than i was expecting. I think maybe Lex Croucher isn't the author for me. I find it very distracting that the characters often don't process violence or grief on the page. Instead, it is kind of bypassed. I know many people will feel differently, and I don't think that, and it's in no way the author's fault. I don't believe a star rating for this book is an accurate representation or faithful to the community because it is simply my own irritation/dislike about the writing style and character development.  I found this to be something in Gwen and Art Are Not In Love, but it came at the end of the book. Whereas this one, the disengaging content happens much sooner, and I personally can't handle that.

Thank you, NetGalley, for offering this arc to me, and I will be more mindful when requesting Lex's work in the future.
