This book is by far my most empowering read. Michelle exceptionally shares all the details of her life, to the point that it felt like I was there during her moments. The book was life-changing, renewing my perspective on things I never really tried to think about deeply. I was able to learn a lot of things ranging from politics, family, career, and love—including how to balance them all and adjust following our priorities. The book showed me a human side to the Obamas I would’ve never known if I did not pick up this book; honestly, I only viewed them as mere American political figures beforehand. While the Obamas were far from perfect—I used to view them in a negative light due to some of their previous political decisions—it cannot be denied that they were honest, passionate, and caring individuals. Fighting racism, dirty politics, violence, and other pressing issues must have been difficult but it was inspiring how they continued to actively fight and lobby for their advocacies and organizations—which were centered on healthcare, education, and grassroots community work.

It made me believe on how we shouldn’t limit ourselves due to fear, but rather pursue things with heart. While things may be daunting or seem impossible at first, we never really know until we try. It takes guts to believe in yourself and unlearn things we found comforting and familiar.
