The dark vision of a world where beings that devour minds and books live hidden in the mansions of minor gentry blends with a painful emotional journey of a mother and a child who needs atrocities to survive.

A fun read that makes Elizabeth Bennet even more of a favorite with her liveliness and now a connection with the mysterious draca of an alternative Great Britain, where the ancient traditions and an earth-centered religion exist next to the Napoleonic War and the delicate social hierarchies of Austen. I especially appreciated the growth in character and strength of Lizzy's sisters in this retelling of the original Darcy romance.

Loved the rich beauty of the language and descriptions (including the food which always made me hungry!), the lovely but terrifying yaksas, a world where no deity is trustworthy and all require sacrifice, the orientation towards family and relationships, and of course the beginning of the romance, which I hope to see more of.
