This book has a permanant place in my heart for so many reasons... 1) It allowed me to prolong my disaffected youth for a few more days 2) It put accuratley and directly into words why upon re-reading "Catcher in the Rye" as an adult didn't live up to it's former glory I remembered from my disaffected youth and 3) For me, I had one of the most laugh out loud scenes I have ever read. In addition, the numerous musical references were highly entertaining. "Sam Hellerman is a genius!"

If I didn't hate the phrase "gritty crime drama" so much, I would use it about this book. A big, thick chunk of dealers, cops, addicts, murders and New Jersey. Hooray!

A story of a father and son wandering through an apocalyptic waste land.
After I read this book, I couldn't sleep for three days! Very vivid and disturbing. (But vivid and disturbing in a good way, mind you.) McCarthy accomplishes so much with so little words, it's amazing. Just please never make me read it again. =O
