I used to think something like this could never happen. Then I started teaching middle school...

I don't even know how to rate this book... once I loved it so much, but upon recently re-reading it, I have discovered I am nothing but a phony who thinks Holden should shut up and stop whining!

I read it, I liked it, but I'm sure I really didn't "get it." For quite a while, I pronounced the "s" at the end of Camus- so yeah, I'm pretty sure I didn't get it.

Yes, I'm kind of a tool. I'm one of those people- I go to one Rush show and all of a sudden, I've been a fan since like 1972. To that end, I also started reading Neil Peart's books.
Anyway... This book was good. Basically, it is a travelouge of his time motorcycling around the US and Mexico after losing both his wife and his daughter. There were a few parts that actually had me tearing up as I read them. One thing that did surprise me was that for such a private person, he really laid a lot out there in terms of his grief and how he dealt with it. I think even a non-Rush fan (since this book has nearly nothing to do with the band) could appriciate his journey.

This was an awesome book. In all honesty, it was a little hard to follow for the first 75 pages or so, but then everything fell into place. I love the way the narrative was unwound and the author's use of language. And then to top it all off, the end nearly broke my heart!! I'm almost certain this will be a book I will pick up and read again someday.
