Strains of Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose" are played throughout this book. One could say it is a combination between the thinking man's Dan Brown and the common man's Eco. If you like a more cerebral mystery set against a (fairly accurate) historical backdrop, check this one out.

Didn't think the story was a solid as the first book, but the theology and philosophy raised was interesting and kept me reading.

Interesting book. The author provides evidence in support of a Creator or designing force in the universe. His Christian bias is apparent, but does not reduce the logic in a number of the arguments.

I started this last August, but didn't get to devote myself to it until after the school year. It's richly written and L.M. does a good job of varying the pace, and keeping the momentum up over the novel's length. The last ten pages whip by a bit too fast, you get the feeling that after eight hundred forty-eight pages, L.M. was looking to be done with the story. The end comes across as a too melancholy and leaves a person with questions that (though, perhaps would be fine with a shorter book) leave the reader feeling there are a few loose ends.
