The first half of the book had me feeling so depressed, I was thinking to DNF. I am so happy I didn’t. The second half of the book moves quicker and is so inspiring. This books gives you all the emotions

I was excited and honored to receive an ARC of *The Good Boy: A Novel* by Stella Hayward in exchange for my honest review. The book is an easy and charming read that allows the reader to set reality aside and enjoy a touch of magical realism.
On the eve of her 30th birthday, Genie, the main character, is granted a wish that mistakenly turns her golden retriever, Rory, into a human. Genie sets out on a quest to help Rory return to his dog form. Along the way, she confronts her mental health struggles, discovers her true self, and rebuilds her confidence. In classic rom-com fashion, it includes an adjacent quest that involves admitting her feelings for her best friend and neighbor of 15 years, Miles.
There are some hilarious moments as Rory navigates the challenges of being human. As he adjusts to his new form, Rory shares the wisdom he gained from Genie's loving care, reminding us that "things that love look after one another."
The Good Boy made me laugh and, surprisingly, brought some tears. It is ideal for readers who enjoy slow-burn romance, friends-to-lovers stories, closed-doors romance (no spice), and dogs (a golden retriever character!). The Good Boy reminds us that “Magic is hope.”

I was excited and honored to receive an ARC of Bookish with Benefits by Alia Smith.
The book will be released on May 1, 2025.
The intriguing title and cover art drew me in, and I was eager to dive into *Bookish with Benefits: A friends-with-benefits, forced proximity romance with undeniable chemistry.* The book is described as follows: *His muse is missing. His manuscript is a mess. And his only hope? The woman who doesn't believe in happily-ever-afters. Their deal? She keeps him on track, and he makes sure she has a little fun.* Interesting, right?
In this charming romance, there’s a twist on the Grump x Sunshine trope. Lara, the grumpy character, is a no-nonsense editor who doesn’t believe in love, while Rory, the Sunshine character, needs help with his next best-selling happily-ever-after. As the two are thrown together in a forced proximity scenario, their workplace romance begins to develop, featuring well-written, fun banter between Lara and Rory.
I appreciated the glimpse into the publishing industry and how important a publisher is to the process. It's fascinating to see how they work with authors to help shape the book's content and pacing.
One negative aspect I noticed was that Lara’s internal thoughts felt repetitive during the book's first half. I understand this was intended to show her overthinking and illustrate the character's internal journey and shift in beliefs.
This book is perfect for romance readers seeking a mild to medium spice level. There’s heat and chemistry between Rory and Lara, but it leans towards “closed-door” scenes rather than anything too intense. It’s a light read, great for the beach, vacation, or as a palate cleanser.

The entire book takes place over a 24-hour period, with flashbacks adding detail and depth to the story. While I don’t think it was as good as "Daisy Jones & The Six" or "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo," it was still enjoyable to see character cameos and crossovers, as well as to learn more about Mick Riva and his children.

I was excited and honored to receive an ARC of *Such Quiet Girls* by Noelle Ihli. From the very first page, I couldn't put it down. The book presents a chilling scenario: ten children are abducted in broad daylight while on their afterschool daycare bus and are buried alive. The bus seemingly disappears without a trace. The vivid descriptions of the buried shipping container evoke a strong sense of claustrophobia.
Inspired by real events—the 1976 Chowchilla kidnapping—this fast-paced story features short chapters narrated from multiple perspectives: Sage, one of the children; the bus driver, Jessa; Ted, one of the kidnappers; and Sheena, the mother of two of the missing girls. The characters are well-developed, primarily set in the present, but there is enough background information on each character to add depth to their struggles as they trust their instincts and strive to make the right decisions.
As time passes, the tension escalates as the children run out of oxygen in the hole where they are trapped. It delivers a gripping sense of urgency, creating a race against time to rescue the children.
This book is perfect for true crime enthusiasts and fans of psychological thrillers. I would rate it 5 stars, and I believe it would make a fantastic movie.
