A unique Arthurian retelling! Humorous, with unexpected twists and turns. Decent action, too!

Though it's been years since I've read it, I read through this series multiple times in my high school and early adulthood years. I loved the writing style and the characters. My son read them, too, and also enjoyed the world Tamora created. There is magic, romance, action, and a really interesting perspective of what it was like growing up as a knight.

Wow. This book. Though not my usual genre, this story really opened my eyes to a world I knew existed but had never experienced. There are people in my life struggling like the girls in this story, and I'm happy to have a better understanding of what they're thinking and feeling.

LOVE LOVE LOVE
I really liked Caraval, but this series is so much better. The Prince of Hearts was probably my favorite character in Caraval, so I was super stoked to get more of his story. Can't wait to read book 3!!!

Beautiful artwork. Beautiful and thought-provoking words. I read through it twice---with lots of underlines =)

Great series! I love how each book adds a new character, each merging with the last as the story continues. Definitely one of my top fairy tale retellings. I picked this up so many times and decided against reading it because the word "cyborg" threw me off. I don't generally care for sci-fi, but I am SO happy I finally caved and tried it out. I couldn't get enough, and pretty much devoured the whole series! I definitely fell more into the fairy tale/fantasy category, despite the cyborgs and space ships. Loved it.

I have reread this book three times. So.
Holly Black creates beautiful worlds and interesting characters in all of her stories, but this one topped my list. She is really good at detailing both the good and the bad, creating unexpected twists, and telling love stories that make your stomach swirl.

I had no idea what was real until the very end. I don't often care for first person perspective, but being in the main character's head is what made it truly exciting. I felt just as scared and confused as she did! Spooky and gothic themes made it a good fall read, and book two was the same.
I will say, I didn't care for what happened at the end. It felt a little forced.
But I still recommend reading it!

I haven't finished book 3 yet, but I am really enjoying this series. The world building is so detailed! I like the characters and the way it jumps around, and I like the way she tells different parts of the world/story through the "book." (which will make sense to you if you read it lol) The history is vast as well, and I like discovering how things connect through time/generations.
Very well done!
