Not a bad book, just not very memorable. It was fun at times, especially because I already know the characters and love them, but I was still bored for most of it. I just didn’t get that adventurous vibe I was expecting, the story is pretty stationary and slow and the plot quite confusing to be honest. I also feel like the romance was lacking, it was just non-existent throughout the entire book and then suddenly obvious at the end for some reason… I get that this is a children’s book but I’ve read more entertaining love stories in YA before.
That doesn’t mean I didn’t smile like an idiot through the entire last chapter though.
So yeah, mixed feelings, maybe the book is just a bit outdated.

Overall I wasn’t really impressed by this book. It dragged a lot at times, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would and was actually quite eager to be done with it.
I’m not saying it’s a bad book by any means, the romance is cute and the characters are nice and diverse, but it just didn’t really land. One thing that was really missing for me were, like, the butterflies in your stomach moments. I felt attached to the characters, but the tension just didn’t work for me

I have no words. This book is utterly incredible. Piranesi is such a loveable and interesting character, what an interesting depiction of solitude. The fantasy elements, this world that Susanna Clark has created is mystical and wonderful, it felt like reading a dream.
And if that wasn’t enough, this book is also one of the first ones to make me feel physically, like, actually tense and expectant to continue and understand what was going on, which is something I really rarely experience even while reading thrillers. This build-up is so well-crafted, and lord the twists and turns.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The thing is, I did like it and I was really glad to reunite with my favourite characters, but I just couldn’t connect with it the way I did with the first one. I feel like this one is a bit too long, and also a bit too slow compared to Six of Crows. Honestly, I really loved the beginning, and the last 50 pages were so good they kind of made up for it (I was bawling my eyes out), but the middle part was just a bit boring. Like I felt forced to read it, to the extent where I thought that maybe it was going to get me into a reading slump. I’m still rating it four stars because I love these characters, this universe and I don’t think this was a bad book at all : if it was a standalone, I probably would’ve just said that I enjoyed it. It just felt a bit disappointing compared to the first one, which is one of my favourite reads of the year.
