I had every expectation that I would love this book. Horror fantasy with queer vampires is completely up my alley. But it just didn't deliver in the way I would have liked. I've seen some other reviews compare it to fanfic or mention that the author writes fanfic and that tracks. I think I'd have enjoyed this a lot more on ao3, but not so much as a published work.

I really like the premise of this book and it being told in a true crime style is really compelling and unique. That said, I think I'd have enjoyed it more if I could have felt more of a connection to the characters like you would in a more traditional storytelling format. This book has a definite Lord of the Flies feel, but the disconnected format took a lot of the fear and horror out of it.

I'm not really sure how to rate this. It's fucked up but very good. I would definitely not call it romance.
