didn’t really know what this was about until like a little after reading it so i might not have picked it up it if i actually had known the premise. but it was cute, the plot and “tension” just seemed a bit dumb

i feel like it heavily relied on dark and disturbing similes and metaphors to really hone in on the fact that it’s supposed to gross you out. i think that was effective in some parts more than others. i really felt bad for Jo though. overall it was a fast read that did make me cringe because of its imagery.

this is the first collection of poetry i’ve read and i really enjoyed this. i read previous poems of her and was gifted this by my english teacher as a grad gift almost two years ago. very moving poems and a lot of important issues written with beauty and significance

really eye-opening to the pedagogical thinking of post coloniality within the Latine community. as a texan chicana, i really needed to read this and was very moved by it.
