We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

I had pretty high expectations going into this one because of all the hype surrounding it so perhaps that's why I was a little disappointed.

Most people are annoyed by
the writing style
but
that didn't seem to bother me
much.

I didn't enjoy the fairy tales comparisons - I thought they were cheesy. The protagonist could have just used some of her over-dramatic descriptions (see gunshot wound to chest - which I thought was real - metaphor) to explain.

It was kind of interesting to see the privileged, materialistic "problems" of those who are affluent, as it's something I've never experienced, but it just got annoying after some time.

But what was more annoying was Cadence constantly saying "Mummy".

What I did like was, that it was true, the truth is more or less blatantly laid out for you at the beginning.

I also liked Gat the most. His story was the most interesting. He had a likeable and believable personality. I could care less about the other characters.

I've been wanting to read this book since high school and I think I would have enjoyed it more then. It was just okay for. Kinda medicore!

Has a good message though and would be interesting to teach to my kids.

The plot itself was a real page turner - I finished it in two sittings but easily could have stayed up all night to read it all.

I enjoyed the story being told from Jack's point of view as it provided a different perspective on the plot. Although some of his narrative was tedious (like all the names of things) and how ignorant he would be of others feelings at times - that's a five year old for you. I believe that Donoghue nailed that perfectly.

I enjoyed everything about this book and I would definitely recommend it!

I went into this book blind, which I recommend.

This novel took me on an emotional roller coaster. It's a beautiful book with great themes and an even greater message.

The writing is good and you can easily tell apart the two main characters' thoughts/perspectives. I loved the characters, save for Uncle Russell (duh!) and quickly grew attached to them.

I honestly don't know what else to say except to just read it! It's a quick but gripping read.
