Lies My Doctor Told Me Second Edition: Medical Myths That Can Harm Your Health by Ken Berry

I agree with 90% of the information presented in this book and will have to dive into some research on my own on the few things I was left questioning. The American diet is absolutely the leading cause for so many of our issues 😞

I love that Dr. Berry provides other resources (books, articles, studies, etc) to the readers. I do wish he provided some more details/information/tips on some of the topics and areas, but this book is pretty general. Hopefully some of the resources he provided will help me more with the specifics I am looking for!

The magic system in this book is so unique and creative as is the style of writing. I literally didn’t know some of the types of trees referenced and had to look them up. 😅 Some of the “revelations” were a little predictable
(like Nightmare being the Shepherd King, Ravyn & Emory being infected, and Ravyn eventually figuring out her secret by using the nightmare card)
, but it’s a really cool read and I’m looking forward to the conclusion in book two!

Also “fake relationship” is an annoying trope in contemporary romance because it’s always some petty reason like “let’s make our exes jealous,” but apparently I’m here for a “let’s be in a fake relationship so we have an excuse to be near each other to conspire to save everyone” trope. 😂

“Be wary. Be clever. Be good.”

I have a lot of mixed feelings. 😅

I didn’t hate it, but I kind of hate that I didn’t hate it. 😂

Even though Wes is my favorite cowboy, this book is my favorite of the series so far. I will definitely listen to book 4 when it comes out.

Riley stole the show! ❤️

I even was only moderately annoyed every time Gus called
Teddy “Teddy Baby.” 🙄
lol. Maybe they’re just growing on me, but the whole family and their pet names weirded me out in the first book 😅 Everyone calling Riley “Sunshine” is cute though. ❤️

Well, wasn’t that cute.

I found some of the dialogue in the first one a little cringy and over the top, but thought this one was better and not as over done.

Was the ending kind of annoying? Yes. I get Ada wanted to be with Wes and have a place/family to belong to, but it annoyed me she gave up her dream job to help him with his. It was still partially her vision too for Baby Blue, but it sucks that her “you don’t have to choose/you can have it all” era only lasted 8 months… 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love Fredrik Backman’s quirky style of writing. His stories are poignant and make me cry 😭 This book is like the Pixar movie “Up” if it was written for depressed adults. 😅

“Loving someone is like moving into a house. At first you fall in love with all the new things, amazed every morning that all this belongs to you, as if fearing that someone would suddenly come rushing in through the door to explain that a terrible mistake had been made, you weren't actually supposed to live in a wonderful place like this. Then over the years the walls become weathered, the wood splinters here and there, and you start to love that house not so much because of all its perfection, but rather for its imperfections. You get to know all the nooks and crannies. How to avoid getting the key caught in the lock when it's cold outside. Which of the floorboards flex slightly when one steps on them or exactly how to open the wardrobe doors without them creaking. These are the little secrets that make it your home.”

Was it predictable and corny? Yes.

Did I still enjoy it and will read the next ones? Also yes.

Side note: As someone who recently left a career in a field I loved, but it wasn’t the long-term right fit; that whole aspect of the story resonated with me more than I thought it would. 😬😩 “The only person who needs to feel good about your decision is you Emmy.” ❤️
