“Thou mayest” - Cat Kid (209 Pilkey)

Finishing this book as solidified my previous statement of this being a work of art. The simplistic art melded with wonderful storytelling really made this a favorite. Cat Kids villain arc and subsequent redemption arc has to be one of my favorite developments in fiction. I truly felt hatred for Petey and his manipulation of Cat Kid. Emotions were conveyed incredibly and made me feel for each and every one of the characters, especially Dog Man when he was called a “bad boy” (which he is not, of course). Dog Mans emotional expression was one of my favorites, he doesn’t talk so it’s all conveyed through body language and expression, and it is done so artfully. I also believe this book handles social issues well, including the sexism Yolay experienced at the hand of the director and Peteys negative view of robots. This book was also very inclusive of all different types of species (people, italians, cats, dogs, robots). I really loved Cat Kids and 80-HDs relationship and development as well. The lesson at the end of the book almost made me tear up.

Peak. Fiction.
