I agree with many of the ideas presented, and I can see why this book has gained such popularity—it has the potential to be very beneficial for a lot of readers.
However, I’ve rated it lower because it could really use a revision to better reflect the 20s. The microaggressions toward femininity and culture often felt distracting, even undermining the author’s main points at times.

The writing is exceptional and I will recommend 100 times over, but the plot and characters weren’t my style.
This could be one of the most insufferable characters ever put to page and I really appreciated learning that my cementers characters need to evolve. Truly the worst!!!

The gasps I gasped. I saw it coming and it still got me, every damn time.
It was a little slow to start but the latter 70% more than made up for it.
The new perspectives were so welcome. It really was the cherry on top of some of the best character growth I’ve read of Yarros so far. bring on the longer books, because I need more of Rhiannon, Imogen, Mira, and, of course, the boys.
Garrick and Imogen are officially my new ship.
One of the highlights for me was how much we got to learn about the side characters. Their backstories and motivations added so much texture to the plot, and I loved seeing them evolve and the twist tapestry grow.
Likewise learning so much more about Xaden’s life added so much to why he is resigned to what could be his fate (it’s so not!) Although the student and professor trope should get in the bin.
