Could barely put the book down. Fast-paced, well-realized good old epic fantasy. Easily 5 stars!

A pleasant surprise. There's nothing boring about this story. It reads fast and while it leans sometimes quite heavily on some of the more typical tropes of the genre, it successfully subverts some of them very well. Interested to read the next one when it comes out.

I didn't have very high expectations for this book. I was almost intimidated by the fact that it is the first in such a long series. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it reads and by how the atmosphere of such a unique world is easily expressed without overcomplicating it. The main character is really the star of this book. The way he develops is believable and he alone should be the reason I continue on with the series. Four stars!
