Despite the age-old warning to never judge a book by its cover, I was drawn into reading Piranesi because the cover and title reminded me much of Circe by Madeline Miller (which I finished a few months prior and was craving more).

The first fourth of Piranesi delivered to me for which I was hungering. My appetite demanded a mystical story of a life surrounded in wonder and naïveté. I later found that Piranesi was not going to be what I expected, and this quickly changed from initial chagrin to overwhelming excitement.

Piranesi is a puzzling story that I found to be an assortment of novelty pieces of its own making in conjuncture with reminiscent signs of my favorite books across time. Here’s the recipe:

▪️2 pounds of IMAGINATIVE PLOT WITH BELIEVABLE EXECUTION (cannot substitute for generic store-brands)

▪️3 cups of REVERENCE OF ONE’S HOME IN SECLUSION straight from Circé

▪️2 tablespoons of PROTAGONIST POV INNOCENCE such as that found in Flowers for Algernon

▪️1 pinch of MATTER-OF-FACT THOUGHT PROCESSING FROM THE MIND OF THE MAIN CHARACTER like the one you’ll find in The Curious Incident is the Dog in the Night-Time

Blend for 2 minutes at high setting and pour into 250 pages of journaled diary-entries. Bake for 6 hours and let cool at 5 star rating when finished.
